Which professions are most desperately seeking romance this Valentine's Day?

Insurance salesmen are revealed as the men most likely to want to 'insure' their Valentine's hopes...

Insurance salesmen are leading the hunt for love this Valentine's - though Michael Winner probably wouldn't want to be included in this category given his public romantic trysts! But 'calm down dear', it's only a survey from Friends Reunited Dating, the sister site of internet phenomenon Friends Reunited.

On the female side, women in the 'Social Caring' profession have been revealed as those most busily looking for love online at the moment - perhaps because they are too busy tending to others' needs to find time to go out and meet potential suitors.

Friends Reunited Dating counted up the number of messages sent and received by people in the various professions to find out who wants to date who in the run-up to Valentine's Day.

The figures show that men in insurance are sending, on average, the most emails to women looking for love - more than twice as many as those who work in science and two and a half times as many as students. (See full list in Notes for Editors).

Rhoda Moore, Head of Romance at Friends Reunited Dating, said: "The Insurance business appears to be absolutely on heat at the moment! Single women looking for a Valentine's date should certainly make it their policy to go out looking for a hot quote they can't refuse."

Given that not having a date for Valentine's Day by now could be thought of as a bit of an emergency, it's appropriate that men in the Emergency Services are currently the second most frantic searchers for love online.

Women in Marketing and PR are the second most active on the female side, just ahead of women who work in Manufacturing.

Who's Dating Who Among Britain's Professions

The data also gives an insight into which professions bond romantically with each other the most strongly.

Male managers, it turns out, are most likely to woo women in a similarly lofty managerial position - or alternatively women doctors. So perhaps men are not so obsessed with the idea of dating a secretary after all.

On the other hand, female secretaries still go with the stereotype and put male managers at the top of their 'most fanciable' lists. Forget it girls, he's not worth it!

Another surprise is that women would rather date an unemployed male than someone who works in science - clearly a lack of chemistry there then.

It's not all bad news for scientists though, depending on your persuasion! Friends Reunited Dating can reveal that gay men who work in 'Retail' are showing a very keen interest in scientists and vice versa. Suits you sir!
