LOVE'S YOUNG BLOOM TURNS ON TO PRIME TIME

2007 set to be The Year of the Yummy Mummy

Here's to you, Mrs Robinson!

Following the lead set by Anne Bancroft in the classic film The Graduate, women of a certain age are rejecting the idea that the best years of their life are over and going in search of younger lovers in greater numbers than ever before.

And it looks like they will be successful too - figures compiled in the run up to this year's Valentine's Day suggests more young men than ever before are actively seeking a relationship with an older woman.

The trend points to 2007 being the 'Year of the Yummy Mummy'.

According to one of Britain's largest Internet dating sites, this February 14th will see the biggest number yet of single women in their 40s and 50s seeking relationships with men in their 20s.

And the stigma that was once attached to dating an older woman looks to be disappearing as men in their 20s are readily turning their backs on girls of their own age in favour of women more than 20 years their senior.

The findings come from a look at the search criteria used by the men and women using Friend Reunited Dating to find a partner.

It is a phenomenon dubbed 'The Mirren Effect' by staff at Friends Reunited Dating.

They say that women in their prime are taking a cue from successful women of their age in the public eye, such as the actress Helen Mirren, whom they say prove that approaching middle-age does not stop a woman from being desirable.

Head of Romance at Friends Reunited Dating, Rhoda Breakell, says, "We've all seen a middle-aged man in a pub joking to his mate that 'you're only as old as the woman you feel'. So it's great to see the tables finally being turned on that one!

"From how people are using our site we can see that there are plenty of mature women who feel good about themselves and are confident about approaching a younger man for a date.

"They've been liberated from life at home with the kids, and have either had enough of spending their days doing things for other people or have already achieved in their career. So they're entering the dating scene with a new lease of life, and the last thing they want is a man who's just getting stuck into his mid-life crisis.

"They're finding that they have the energy for sharing life with a younger man. And, in return, the lads are not feeling any shame in dating a women who is significantly older than them. In fact, there seems to be a lot of cache in doing so.

"The questions remains though over what it is that women in their 20s and men in their 40s and 50s are perceived to be lacking.
